Milton Market + Dumais Made - Cobble Lamp
So many years ago, when I first moved to New York, Sundays had a rhythm of their own — beginning with brunch downtown and always ending at the 26th Street Flea Market. It was part social ritual, part treasure hunt. In those early days, I found a pair of spherical marble lamps — simple, charming, and to me, incredibly grown-up.
They’ve followed me ever since — from apartment to apartment, through my 20s and into this chapter of life. They’ve lit every space I’ve called home, and each time I turn them on, I’m taken back to those electric early years, when life felt wide open, full of promise and possibility.
Objects have a way of holding memory — quietly, intimately — in ways that surprise us. That’s what I shared with my dear friend Charlie Dumais. For years we've been circling the idea of a collaboration, never quite finding the right moment — until now.
Charlie began working with the team behind Troutbeck, the revered Hudson Valley hotel, on Belden House, their beautiful new inn in Litchfield. They were looking for something special for the library — lamps to be tucked among the books.
So Charlie reimagined the lamp — scaled it down in size, small enough to fit in your hand but big enough to feel substantial. The shade was elongated, echoing the shape of old oil lamps. And as a nod to the literary spirit of the room, the shades were crafted in custom, hand-marbled paper — recalling the traditional endpapers of old books.
Twelve were made in total, in glazes like chalk, red clay, sea, and bottle green — now found throughout Belden House and, I’m thrilled to say, here at Milton Market. The inn is just two blocks away, and it feels like such a lovely, full-circle moment.
Thank you, Charlie, for your friendship and for this beautiful collaboration.
